A New Generation of AIESEC Karachi!

Today, we welcomed a new generation of AIESEC Karachi to their first GBM. For me, this was a very special moment - despite all the logistical challenges, the malfunctioning PC and speakers, and the time challenges - it was absolutely amazing to see all the new faces in the room. What made it even more special was that Saira Moin was there - our first LCP, who started up AIESEC Karachi with Tori, and who recruited me, and so many more of us, in AIESEC. :) Congratulations to the OC Recruitment for doing a fantastic job with recruitment - and to our very special newies! They are:

So if you were reading our blog in January, you'd know thats when we did our last recruitment and how excited we were then when the final list of selected candidates came up..

Our meeting to decide on AIESEC Karachi's new members was today - it was an odd feeling of dejavu as some of us had been in a similar meeting more than 6 months ago, but we were different people from what we are today.

Its a rather strange feeling to know that we're about to create AIESEC experiences for so many people.

Quarter 2: Team Days!

I love team days! :D

I'm responsible for running them and I know alot of LCs don't run these - you guys are missing out on a fantastic experience :)

We had our first day a couple of days ago (we run ours with gaps - with our uni schedules, there's NO other way) - and combined with a Mobilink network failure, changing the venue at the last minute (because Haris, Rabia and I were starving) and trying to balance 5 trays and a laptop and assorted notebooks on a tiny table at Time Out - it made for a very fun experience :) Explaining IBE and tracking our plans through the balanced scorecard tools was the agenda for the first day.

Pictures: coming soon! :)

A message from your LCP..

Dear AIESEC Karachi,

Over the past six months, I have often been asked by some of you - "So what is it you do exactly?" To be very honest, the range of tasks that I have done during my LCP term have been so varied that at times I have wondered what my LCP mandate really is! But to give you the official line - my role is LC management, overseeing the EB and working with the MC to bring down global and national strategies to the local level. Other than that, I am also IS responsible on the EB, have handled the Finance portfolio, worked on conference management, and am somehow responsible for lugging around a gazillion t-shirts from conference to conference!

At International Congress 2006, there wasn't a single day when I opened up the Spam window to write a message to you, my amazing LC, that has made me so proud time and time again. To my surprise, writing in words what a phenomenal experience going to an international conference with more than 500 delegates meant was quite difficult. To me, international conferences have always had a tinge of emotion involved. To have the opportunity to represent your country at such a gathering, and to interact with people from all over the world makes me feel truly blessed, and grateful to all the people who have, in their own way, enabled me to have this opportunity. I also hope, that in the years to come, all of you take advantage of these amazing opportunities that AIESEC has to offer.

Of course, coming back from IC and re-integrating into everyday life has been a challenge! But to keep everyone updated on what I'm doing in the coming weeks, here you go:

- Running Quarter 2 Team Days with the EB! We're reevaluating our plans, goals and incorporating IC bringback - all of this will be shared with you at GBM on Friday and in coming meetings
- Transitioning the Finance portfolio to Haris, as I've been handling this in the past
- Working with Mikaal Mahmood, OCP for NLC 2007, on the bid and feasibility report for the conference that will be presented at NYDS!
- Recruitment! Looking forward to the upcoming rounds of interviews! The Recruitment Task Force has outdone themselves in the past few weeks, and reading their updates from IC always made us jump up and down in excitement!

It has just recently hit me that six months of my term have passed - and I only have a short while to go before I finish my term and start planning for my future role in AIESEC. Being LCP has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life - and I have learnt SO much while being LCP, but it has also been the best AIESEC experience ever! Every conversation I have had with each one of you, every conference, every GBM - I have witnessed the change that AIESEC has brought about in everyone and it has made me more motivated and more passionate about AIESEC. I hope, that over the course of your time in AIESEC, all of you discover the same passion, ten thousand times over. :)

Love,
Saba Imtiaz

Some candidates show more enthusiasm than others, here's one such candidate, she sits 'on' the information desk after we leave, as a potential hard working member we (Rahim and I) decided to brand her :)

Taha, a little distracted in his attempt to attract students (ahem)
